‘Muscle Memory is a very good thing.’
She may not have skated since her teens, but soon Angela Meyer is happily whirling around the rink while Tania reads aloud from ‘Joan Smokes’, winner of the inaugural Mslexia Novella Award (UK) and described as a ‘beautifully rendered work of literature’.
Angela and Tania discuss writing technique, poetry, self-editing and experimentation, as well as succinct, gothic and ‘sensory’ writing.
After Angela attempts a spin or two, we head to the IceHQ Café to chat voracious reading habits (Angela: ‘I’m typically reading five novels at a time’) re-reading Stephen King and, of course, Angela’s novel Moon Sugar in five emojis…
Angela’s beautiful novel Moon Sugar, as well as her award-winning novella Joan Smokes are available online and in bookshops. There is a Guardian review of Moon Sugar here.
